Handling 101

Heather Wark is the presenter for this seminar

Based on student feedback, we are please to offer this Handling 101 seminar. These interactive nights we leave our dogs at home and sink our teeth into handling on our own. Every competitive level agility course offers handling choices. The choices people make are sometime universal where we see almost all handlers making the same choice, while with others we might see handlers doing different things. What makes people choose one over the other? What verbal and physical cues might be helpful? What cross would be most effective?  We will dig into theory around handling choices as well as get out and walk some sequences and/or courses to figure out what is best for us. We will be primarily using Starters USDAA or AAC courses for our explorations and conversations. These workshops are geared toward handlers new to the sport of agility or who would like to dig into handling theory a bit more for their own understanding.

Pre-weaves Workshop

Melissa Gillard CPDT-KA is the instructor for this workshop.

This workshop gives dogs the best chance at successfully working through our Weave Workshop. Weaves are physically the hardest obstacle for most dogs to perform, and they require the dogs to understand “shaping”; a learning procedure used throughout weave training. This workshop series teaches flexibility, strength and conditioning exercises that target the muscles, tendons and ligaments needed in the activity of weaving. We also focus on the building the movement patterns and shaping skills that will be needed in the weave workshop to maximize success.

Scheduled dates:
Friday April 3 - 7:00-8:00pm
Friday April 17 -  7:00-8:00pm
Friday April 24 -  7:00-8:00pm
Friday May 1 -  7:00-8:00pm

Weaving Workshop Series

The location will change throughout the session, schedule sent to participants once classes begin.

Heather Wark is the instructor for this workshop.

This workshop is well known to produce results. Over the years we have honed our process and learned ways to help more dogs learn the weaves faster. Based on Susan Garrett’s 2x2 method, we progress dogs through weave training in an intensive month where we meet at least 10 times. Increasing the frequency of the training allows the dogs to progress more quickly through the process of weave training as they do not lose as much ground between sessions. For best results in this workshop, our Pre-weaves Workshop is highly recommended.
