Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to some common questions about our classes, online registration, and more

CLASSES

Q: How do I register for a class online?

A: Watch this video for a quick explanation of our new online registration process. If you don't see a class available, it may be full or the next session may not be open for registration yet. Reactive Dog classes and Competitive agility classes are not available for public online registration.

Q: Where are your classes held?

A: Our main facility is at 290 Hazelwood Drive. where we hold the majority of our classes, as well as our new private/semi private training building. We also occasionally hold classes in the lower level of Pet Valu on Dawson Rd. You can see photos here.

In the warmer months, we offer outdoor classes at a variety of locations around the city.

Q: How much is [class] / [other service]?

A: All prices are listed on the corresponding pages for the class or service

Q: Which class is right for my dog?
A: If your puppy is under 14 weeks old (at the start of the upcoming class) start with Puppy Playschool
If your puppy is between 14 weeks old and 2 years old, start with Beginning with Basics
For dogs over 2 years old, or dogs who struggle to be in a group class with other dogs and people, contact us to discuss the best option for you and your dog.

Q: Can my dog skip the prerequisite classes?

Our classes build on each other and cover things that may not be covered in training classes elsewhere.  Foundation skills are extremely important for long term success and we have created our program based on our years of experience to support pet owners in getting the best results. If your dog has previous training and you want to join one of our higher-level classes, please contact us to schedule a private lesson to evaluate your dog. You may still need to take the appropriate prerequisites.

Q: What age can my puppy start class?

A: Puppies can join Puppy Playschool if they will be 8 weeks old by the first day of class. They must have their first set of vaccinations at least 10 days before the first day of class. They must stay on a 4-week vaccine schedule. Rabies vaccinations are typically not given until after 16 weeks of age and therefore are not required until that time.

Q: How does Reactive Dog Class work?

A: Our Reactive Dog Class is held outdoors on our private property. This allows the teams in class to work under threshold (without provoking reactions) and without the unpredictable environment of working in public spaces. With expert guidance from Anne-Marie and her team, you will work through a variety of training exercises and scenarios while keeping everyone comfortable and working at each individual's pace.

Q: How do Agility classes work?

A: Our agility program is designed specifically to build on skills from our Core classes (Beginning with Basics, The Next Step, and Branching Out). This ensures dogs have the foundation skills needed to start with "real agility" skills right away in level 1. Each level has specific goals for dogs and their handlers to reach before moving on to the next level, and every team progresses at their own pace. Our focus is with pet dogs, and while we do have Competitive level classes (and many successfully competing teams), there is no expectation for teams in other levels to compete at any time.

PRIVATE LESSONS/BEHAVIOUR CONSULTATIONS

Q: How can I book an initial private consultation?

A: You can apply for our private training/behaviour consultations at this link. From there, we will review your information and assign the appropriate staff member to reach out via email and send you a link to book your first appointment.

OTHER PROGRAMS (STAY & TRAIN, WALK & TRAIN, DOG WALKING)

Q: Do you have a boarding kennel?

A: No, we do not have a boarding kennel. We do have our Stay n Train program which is home-based. We do not offer dog sitting or 'just boarding' options.

Q: How can I book Dog Walking or Walk & Train?

A: The first step is to submit your application for the program you want. Then, once your application has been reviewed, a staff member will be in touch to schedule your intake session. Once the intake session is complete, you can either schedule times in-person, or through a calendar link that will be sent afterwards.
